Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the narrative revolves around the heroic struggles of humans to retain their grip on what little of Earth that remains unconquered by a hostile extraterrestrial race. The intricately woven storyline introduces us to a disparate group of survivors, who band together to launch a resistance movement against these invading entities, known as „The Espheni“, in the aftermath of a devastating planetary invasion that decimated a vast majority of the global population.

At the helm of this seditious band is Tom Mason, a former professor of history, who takes on the role of the second-in-command, fiercely employing his knowledge of military history as a weapon. Mason’s character arc becomes a major emotional pivot for the narrative, joining the armed struggle while on a desperate quest to find his son who was taken captive by the alien enemies.

Capturing the resilience of humanity even in the face of complete annihilation, the series maintains a tense aura that triggers a continuous adrenaline rush, effortlessly engaging its audience with a sustained suspense. The series aptly brings into focus the unpredictable and sometimes contradictory nature of human behaviour in scenarios marked by brutal survivalism.

However, the series does overstretch at times, causing occasional lapses in storytelling, and rendering some plot developments to feel forced or insubstantial. While the CGI and visual effects appear laboured at times, they are largely excused by the gripping narrative and riveting performances of a committed ensemble cast. Its exquisite storytelling and finesse in exploring individual character arcs, combined with brilliant execution of suspense elements, make it a worthy investment of your viewing time.
